A Donation of a Different Kind
Kirsten recently donated her Honda Jazz to Kids Under Cover’s Donate Your Car Program to help prevent youth homelessness. Many of us can relate to…

We’re absolutely astonished by the generosity of one particular donor who has donated a very high-value second-hand car to Kids Under Cover…
But this week we were so thrilled that one particular donor gifted their 2023 Toyota HiLux SR5 cab chassis with less than 20,000km on the clock which they’ve kept in absolutely immaculate condition – it’s almost as almost new!
No matter how much ongoing generosity we continue to see from our donors, it never ceases to amaze and encourage us when we see donations of all values come through.
Every single dollar makes a difference to our ability to make positive impact on young lives through our programs. Of course, we’re endlessly grateful to every person who has generously given their car to us… But still, we’re pleasantly astonished that someone has chosen to donate a vehicle that they’ve clearly looked after so well. This is ideal for tradies or anyone who loves getting outdoors.
Not only is this vehicle pristine – but the previous owner has even added to the car’s potential value by adding a range of high-quality accessories including a fully enclosed and lockable tool trailer, canopy setup, roof racks, and R.M. Williams seat covers.
Our partners at Manheim and Cox Auto are blown away by this donor’s generosity too.
Mike Costello from Cox Automotive says, “We’re so excited to see the generosity at play here. Not only is this a ready-to-roll workhorse from the market’s biggest brand, but its buyer will help put a roof over the heads of disadvantaged youth”.
Linda Stephens looks after the supporter experience for the Donate Your Car initiative at Kids Under Cover, and she says it makes her so excited when she gets the opportunity to see someone contribute to our cause in such an impactful way.
Linda says, “I couldn’t believe it when I saw the notification for this one come through on our system; This car is worth over $50,000 and with the condition it’s being presented in – it could be in really high demand, and could raise even more than that!”
“I can’t wait to be able to say a big huge thank you to the car’s donor – it really means so much to us to get this type of support. It’s incredible, we’re so grateful,” she continues.
The crew at Manheim and Cox Automotive enable the Donate Your Car fundraising initiative for Kids Under Cover for facilitating every part of the collection and sale process for us; including advertising and promoting the vehicles we receive, and selling them via auction so the proceeds can be transferred to Kids Under Cover. We then make sure that the car’s original owner receive their tax receipt so they can claim a deduction on their tax return for the value of the car’s sale price.
The vehicle’s details:
When Mike Costello shared the HiLux’s auction listing with us he had a few words to say about the high standards set for the ute’s upcoming auction: “It’s a desirable SR5 spec with a Grade 1 rating, and pairs Toyota’s 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine to a six-speed automatic and part-time 4×4 with low-range. It’s perfect for tradies in need of a ready-to-go work ute, and we expect significant consumer interest in such a vehicle.”
“Funds raised from the sale of this vehicle will do a great deal of good in the community, because near-new HiLux SR5s set up for work like this one are expected to retain a high percentage of their original value when sold,” says Mike.
“We commend the generosity of the vehicle’s donor, and are proud to support Kids Under Cover with its vital mission.”
Did you know that we’ve had over 23,000 cars donated to support and enable our programs since the inception of the Donate Your Car initiative? We’ve even had some other types of vehicles donated too – from caravans, to motorbikes, and even boats!
Our partnership with Manheim Auctions Australia and Cox Automotive that allows us to fundraise by collecting and auctioning unwanted vehicles is so valuable to us, it truly drives our ability to provide safe and stable accommodation to young people in need.
