New CEO Joins Fight Against Youth Homelessness

Media Release

Kids Under Cover has appointed experienced homelessness campaigner Stephen Nash to continue its work preventing homelessness of vulnerable young people.

Mr Nash has dedicated his entire 25-year career to reducing homelessness and will join Kids Under Cover in late-November following a successful tenure as Managing Director of affordable housing provider Common Equity Housing.

Kids Under Cover Acting Chairman Nathaniel Popelianski said the Board had been impressed with Stephen’s deep focus on reducing homelessness and his strong alignment to the organisation’s values.

This personal connection is expected to drive Kids Under Cover to deliver positive outcomes for the one in five young people facing homelessness in Australia today.

Mr Popelianski thanked outgoing CEO Jo Swift for her exceptional leadership and dedication to Kids Under Cover during her almost 20 years with the organisation.

During this time, Ms Swift oversaw the development of 976 studios providing secure homes for 1,316 young people, while also awarding 1,927 scholarships to keep young people connected to education. The organisation has thrived under her leadership, achieving significant revenue growth.

The contribution that Jo Swift has made to Kids Under Cover and reducing youth homelessness should be both commended and will long be celebrated by everyone within the sector.

In a sign of her commitment to the organisation, Ms Swift will remain for a four-week transition period alongside Mr Nash before departing in late-December.
