Community groups drive homelessness debate

Media Release

In our endeavour to end homelessness, it’s critical we explore every solution and come together as a community to share ideas and generate productive discussion.

The more noise we make and the more light we shine on the issue, the more likely it is that key decision makers will take notice and feel compelled to drive action.

Last month, Kids Under Cover CEO, Stephen Nash, chaired a panel discussion about homelessness at a forum hosted by Creswick Woollen Mills – a small family run business and passionate advocates of community welfare. Their annual Blanket Drive has distributed over $1million worth of blankets to people experiencing hardship and homelessness across Australia.

The forum attracted the attendance of a range of government, philanthropic and community partners including Melbourne’s new Lord Mayor, Nick Reece and Victorian Government Housing Minister, Harriet Shing. Both offered their insights and spoke of their commitment to act on homelessness in our cities and across our state.

This is how we get things done. By coming together from different directions, with new ideas and a shared common goal. We look forward to continuing to work together in our pursuit of a community where homelessness no longer exists.
