Charity Lunch goes Virtual

A Few Good Folkers (FGF) is a network of Victorian business owners and entrepreneurs who have hosted many functions to raise funds for community organisations since 2007. Kids Under Cover is one of the beneficiaries of the almost $1 million FGF has raised during this time.

Kids Under Cover has been a key partner with FGF in co-hosting the annual FGF-footy lunch, now in its 12th year.

This year the COVID-19 restrictions in Melbourne made hosting this event difficult and unlikely. This event is a vital source of funding for Kids Under Cover which is needed more than ever, as demand for our programs has doubled due to COVID-19.

Committee members were dedicated to the cause and decided to pivot the event and make it virtual! A record of over 50 tickets have been sold at $200 per person for the new virtual function.

Jo Swift, CEO of Kids Under Cover says FGF’s previous support has made a life-changing difference to young people at risk of homelessness, and this year will be no different.

“We are so grateful for the years of support and generosity of the FGF network. The funds raised this year will provide much needed support to at-risk young people and their families, who are feeling the impact of this pandemic far deeper than the broader population.”

The event will be MC’d by former Essendon and Adelaide Crow star Sean ‘not-a’ Wellman, and feature special guests including Australian rock-icon and football tragic, Tim “Roo” Rogers.

This year Dineamic Foods will deliver the catering, thanks to founder, FGF member, two-time Essendon B&F winner and premiership player, Jason Johnson.

The fundraising will happen via a live online auction. As always, the most sought-after item will be a piece of unique Aboriginal art kindly donated by Melbourne local and world-renowned artist Adam Knight, of Aranda Art Mitchelton.

This virtual event during a global pandemic will make a significant contribution to Kids Under Cover. FGF is aiming to raise $40,000 at this year’s event. These funds will go towards building a studio for an at-risk young person. This safe and secure place to call home provides young people with the opportunity to stay connected to their family, community and education.
