Kids Under Cover featured in Parity Magazine

Media Release

Kids Under Cover is proud to be featured in the latest edition of Parity magazine with an article and original illustration titled “Before the Fall: Preventing Youth Homelessness.”

The feature highlights the urgent need to shift Australia’s homelessness response upstream – focusing on prevention and early intervention rather than crisis response alone. As the article explains, too often the system is structured to respond only after people have already fallen into homelessness, rather than addressing the risks earlier in life.

To help illustrate this challenge, Kids Under Cover commissioned artist Debbie Wood to create a powerful visual representation of the “cliff” that many young people face. The illustration shows how factors such as poverty, overcrowding, family conflict and gaps in services can push young people toward homelessness – and how stronger prevention systems can create a safer path forward.

At Kids Under Cover, prevention is at the heart of everything we do. Our relocatable backyard studios provide young people with a safe, self-contained space at home -helping them remain connected to family, education and community.

The article also highlights Target450, our vision to prevent and end youth homelessness for an additional 450 young people every night through increased investment in early intervention.

We are grateful to Parity magazine for helping bring attention to the importance of prevention and systems thinking in addressing youth homelessness.

Digital versions of Parity will be available later in the year. In the meantime, you can read the full article and view the powerful illustration below.
