Kids Under Cover Scholarship

2017 Mid-Year Applications NOW OPEN

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Kids Under Cover offers scholarships to young people who meet the following criteria:

  • aged 15 – 25 years old;
  • studying or undertaking training in the next year and;
  • living in a Kids Under Cover studio or in the main house where a studio is located.

There are two application rounds per year. The first round in October/November is for the next full academic year. There is also a mid-year round for second semester, which is for half the full-year scholarship amount (applications open 18 April 2017).

What are the steps involved?

1 Apply online before 2 June

2 Kids Under Cover review

Kids Under Cover will review all applications against the priority assessment criteria

3 Notification

Applicants will be notified of the scholarship application outcome by email

4 Money transfer

If the scholarship application is successful, scholarship funds will be paid into the nominated bank account

5 Use of the funds

Scholarship recipients use the scholarship funds for educational or training expenses in accordance with the provided guidelines

6 Record & submit expenses

The scholarship recipient or the primary contact person is responsible for recording scholarship expenditure on the online Scholarship Expenditure Form provided

7. Submit an evaluation form

The scholarship recipient or primary responsible contact person is required to submit a Scholarship Evaluation Form prior to the end of the school year to outline how the scholarship has assisted the young person.

Kids Under Cover Scholarship FAQs

Scholarships are financial assistance to help with education and training costs.

You are able to apply for the following amounts depending
upon the level of study or training you are undertaking:
 $600 for Year 10 at Secondary School.
 $1,100 for Year 11 / 12 at Secondary School or the equivalent at TAFE.
 $1,300 for Tertiary (post – secondary) level courses.
Please note: you will be applying for the whole amount and
do not need to specify expenses at the time of application.

You are able to apply for the following amounts depending
upon the level of study or training you are undertaking:
 $300 for Year 10 at Secondary School.
 $550 for Year 11 / 12 at Secondary School or the equivalent at TAFE.
 $650 for Tertiary (post – secondary) level courses.
Please note: you will be applying for the whole amount and
do not need to specify expenses at the time of application.

Things to help you with your studies, for example;
Textbooks, uniforms, laptop, printer, excursions, transport, and stationery.

 Secondary school ‑ Year 10, Year 11 or Year 12.
 TAFE – Certificate I, II, III, IV or Diploma or Apprenticeship.
 University ‑ Undergraduate degree (i.e. Bachelor).

Full year scholarship applications open in October each year (for the next study year) and applications close early December.
Mid-year scholarship applications can be applied for in April-June of the year you are studying

The scholarships can only be used to cover educational expenses incurred in the year for which the scholarship is awarded. So if you apply for a scholarship in 2016 for the 2017 educational year your scholarship can only be used for expenses incurred during 2017.

 Course fees covered by loan schemes such as HECS or FEE-HELP.
Note: TAFE courses that are designed to progress to an undergraduate university degree are covered by FEE-HELP and therefore are ineligible.
 Any expenses incurred in previous years prior to 2016.

Yes. You can submit one application each year, as long as you meet the eligibility criteria.

Yes. As long as each person has submitted their own separate application then these will be reviewed independently of each other. It is possible for more than one young person in the same household to be awarded a scholarship in the same year.

No. Only young people who are currently living in a Kids Under Cover Studio, or young people who are currently living in the main house where the studio is located, are able to apply. However, exceptions may be made if the young person is residing elsewhere temporarily as a direct result of their study / training course (i.e. living in student accommodation).

Yes, if you live in the main house where a Kids Under Cover studio is located.

You are only able to apply for a scholarship if the studio has already been constructed and the young person the studio was built for is living in it.

Only if you turn 15 before 30 June in the year in which the scholarship will be awarded.

No. You are only able to apply for a scholarship if you are aged 15 – 25 years as of 30 June in the year in which the scholarship will be awarded for use.

Yes. A scholarship application can come from any young person that meets the eligibility criteria, which includes young people living in the main house where a studio is located.

No. Scholarship funds are set at three set amounts depending upon the level of study or training a young person is undertaking. The set amounts are the maximum funds available to one person.

No. When you apply you do not need to provide a list of the expenditure amounts or items. The amount applied for is based on your level of study. After receiving the funds, you will need to record how you spent the money and report it back to Kids Under Cover using the online Scholarship Expenditure Form that will be provided to you.

1) EMAIL ADDRESS
You must have an email address in order to submit and receive communication about your application.
Please contact the Kids Under Cover Scholarship Coordinator if you wish to apply for a scholarship but do not have email / internet access.

2) DOCUMENTS
You will be asked to upload and attach the following supporting documentation to your application:
- ƒƒConfirmation of enrolment document for the year in which the scholarship is awarded.
- ƒƒA supporting letter from a professional who is aware of the young person’s/family’s personal circumstances. For example a doctor, counsellor, case or social worker, school staff member or community leader.

3) STUDIO REFERENCE NUMBER
This is the unique ID attached to your Kids Under Cover studio; this ID begins with a letter and is followed by four numbers. You will be asked to quote your Studio Reference Number on the scholarship application form. Please contact Kids Under Cover if you are unsure of your Studio Reference Number Freecall: 1800 801 633

No. Applications for the Kids Under Cover Scholarship Program must be submitted online. We recommend using a local public library or internet kiosk if you do not have any other access to a computer or the internet.

After the application closing date, Kids Under Cover will review all applications against the priority assessment criteria. We will send you a letter telling you whether your application has been successful or not.
