Volunteer Week | Leanne’s Story

We recently caught up with Leanne in the lead up to National Volunteer Week to chat about her experience as one of our wonderful community of volunteers.

Leanne works for one of our corporate partners, Macutex, but it was more than her working relationship which inspired her to become involved.

“I came to be involved in volunteering for Kids Under Cover because I have a heart for not-for-profit. I’ve worked for a not-for-profit and I have a special needs stepdaughter, so I’m familiar with the environment and I know how hard it is, so anything I can do to help in some small way, I will,” Leanne tells us.

She says what she loves most about volunteering is the opportunity to interact with the public and create awareness for Kids Under Cover.

“I remember when I volunteered at Springvale for a Donate Your Car event, I had so much fun! I was a woman on a mission handing out leaflets all around the center. We also donated two cars on the day which was really exciting!”

We love working with our volunteers, so it’s always a joy to hear they’ve had a great time too!

“I always enjoy volunteering for Kids Under Cover, it brings you back down to earth. We can all get caught up in our own world, Kids Under Cover brings you back to reality,” says Leanne.

Volunteering can be a win-win, you can take away from it just as much as you have given.

“One of the things that stands out to me that I’ve learned from volunteering for Kids Under Cover is when a group of people come together, we can achieve greatness.

“We all strive in our personal life to achieve things individually, but the reality is we achieve so much more as a collective,” Leanne explains.

Sometimes volunteering can give you the opportunity to look at the world from a different perspective. That’s exactly what Leanne has found.

“I’m sad that the world requires an organisation like Kids Under Cover, but I am so thankful that we have an organisation like Kids Under Cover. I have eight grandchildren it breaks my heart to think about them in a tough situation like that.

“Kids Under Cover’s programs encourage young people to have a future, to dream, to be whatever they want to be. And all along they know they’ve got the support to do that, which is important for every young person, no matter how old they are.”
