Government Support

Victorian State Government

Kids Under Cover enjoys a positive and constructive relationship with the Victorian Government and we are grateful for the support we received from the Office of Housing, the Victorian Property Fund and the Department of Health and Human Services.

In April 2016, we welcomed the announcement of an unprecedented $3.39 million funding commitment over three years from the Victorian Government for Kids Under Cover early intervention programs.

This funding commitment, made by the Victorian Office of Housing, provides greater certainty for Kids Under Cover and the families we take care of. The outcomes of early intervention or prevention of youth homelessness are more likely to be delivered with such longer-term vision.

Support from the Victorian Property Fund has allowed us to focus on regional and rural Victoria, where we have been providing 21 studios for a number of years.

The Department of Health and Human Services has supported us in a number of ways. One channel was through a partnership called Detour, which involved Melbourne City Mission and Kildonian Uniting Care to provide accommodation support for homeless prevention through the building of studios.

We also work closely with the Department of Health and Human Services in our complementary education support for young people at risk of homelessness, with Kids Under Cover administering the Department of Health and Housing Student Scholarship program.
