Kids Under Cover supports vulnerable young people at risk of homelessness by building studios
There are many ways to get involved and help at-risk young people and their families.
It was today announced that Kids Under Cover will receive $2.3 million as part of the Marshall Liberal Government’s new $20 million Homelessness Prevention Fund.
The funding will enable Kids Under Cover to build 51 one- or two-bedroom studios over the next three years in South Australia. Constructed in the backyard of the family or carer’s home, the fully relocatable studios are built for young people aged between 12 and 25 years in order to relieve conflict and overcrowding.
“Kids Under Cover has identified a strong link between overcrowded households and young people prematurely leaving home and becoming vulnerable to homelessness – and this project will help South Australian youth stay safely connected with their families,” said Minister for Human Services Michelle Lensink.
“For over 30 years Kids Under Cover has been preventing youth homelessness in Victoria. We are delighted with this new funding commitment from the South Australian Government. We firmly believe the most effective way to reduce the number of young people experiencing homelessness is through prevention and early intervention and are excited for the opportunity to deliver our Studio Program in South Australia for the first time,” said Jo Swift, Kids Under Cover CEO.
