Meet our new Head of Programs…

Introducing our new Head of Programs…

Kara has a diverse career working in the health and community services for over 2 decades. She’s an amazing addition to the team and we’re so excited to have her on board.

We asked Kara a few questions about herself and why she joined Kids Under Cover. Take a read below.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself ? What you did prior to this

“Although I’m a biochemist by training, I‘ve spent the last 25 years working in health and community services. Over this time I’ve held a diverse range of roles including strategy, planning, service development and operations. I’ve worked in community health, disability and dental health, but following roles at Very Special Kids and the Royal Children’s Hospital, I’ve discovered my real passion is working for organisations that support young people and families who are going through tough situations.”

What drew you to the role as Head of Programs as Kids Under Cover ? Have you had any prior experience ?

“I was attracted to the upstream, prevention-based focus of the work that Kids Under Cover does. Every studio built is one step closer to preventing youth homelessness. Together with our scholarship program, this approach helps keep families together, re-engages young people in education and puts them on the path to a much brighter future. As a mum with two kids of my own, this really resonated with me!”

What are you most excited about working on at Kids Under Cover.

“The opportunity to expand the impact we have into other states across Australia is really exciting. I also look forward to working with our wonderful partner organisations on getting some new Village 21s up and running, as well as continuing to explore new ways to provide young people with a safe and secure home that they can call their own.”

Thanks for coming aboard Kara!
