New Victorian Government Partnership

Kids Under Cover are excited to announce a new partnership with the Victorian Government to support the rehabilitation of young people transitioning out of youth justice.

The Department of Justice & Community Safety (DJCS) are funding 50 relocatable studios to provide safe and secure accommodation for young people at risk of homelessness, supporting rehabilitation for those in youth justice, in partnership with Kids Under Cover and Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS).

This $3.4 million investment allows young people to live safely and addresses critical housing needs for young people of leaving youth justice. This will make a life changing difference for this vulnerable cohort.

“For more than 30 years Kids Under Cover has worked tirelessly to prevent youth homelessness in Victoria. We are pleased that as a result of this partnership with the Department of Justice and Community Safety, we can extend our reach to further support rehabilitation and reintegration for those in youth justice,” said Jo Swift, Kids Under Cover CEO.

“It’s great to be working with Kids Under Cover on this vital project addressing critical housing needs of young people leaving the youth justice system so they can live safely at home, as part of their ongoing rehabilitation,” said Minister for Crime Prevention and Youth Justice Natalie Hutchins.

We look forward to working alongside DJCS and DHHS as we strive together for a community where no young person experiences homelessness.
