Kids Under Cover supports vulnerable young people at risk of homelessness by building studios
There are many ways to get involved and help at-risk young people and their families.
Every day we are inspired by the resilience of the young people supported by Kids Under Cover and are often overwhelmed by the stories of families we come across.
Families who through no fault of their own are doing it tough. They are doing the best they can just to survive having endured hardship and harrowing experiences.
Helen’s* family is one of those. A single mum with four children – Helen and her kids are survivors. Read Helen’s full story here.
Keeping her kids safe, out of harm’s way led to Helen’s decision to flee an abusive and violent relationship five years ago. Leaving her and the kids homeless.
Prior to receiving a Kids Under Cover studio Helen and her kids had spent several years moving from house to house with little notice. This gave the children no sense of belonging or stability.
For this family transitional housing promised a far better future than the one they had escaped from. The wait for a larger house was too long for Helen and her financial situation meant private rental was not an option.
For families dealing with the effects of trauma, and young people at risk of homelessness, a Kids Under Cover studio can make an enormous difference.
A studio not only provides space for the whole family, it also gives young people a sense of hope. It gives them a place. A sense of belonging and in many cases, space to heal.
Your donation today will help us build a brand new one-bedroom studio for a family in desperate need of additional space to keep a young person from becoming homeless.
