Kids Under Cover supports vulnerable young people at risk of homelessness by building studios
There are many ways to get involved and help at-risk young people and their families.
At the last census, 2-in-5 people experiencing homelessness were young people. That’s almost 28,000 young Australians who are homeless on any given night in Australia.
Young people experiencing homelessness are more likely to be found in severely crowded dwellings, couch surfing or in inappropriate crisis accommodation. While many of these young people do have a roof over their heads, they lack the basic privacy, security and comfort that most of us take for granted.
We’re Kids Under Cover, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to preventing youth homelessness. We build relocatable, one and two bedroom studios, with a bathroom, in the backyard of a family or carer’s home. We then complement these with scholarships for education or job training, offsetting basic education costs to empower young people to achieve their goals. Not only are our scholarships awarded to young people residing in our studios, but also their siblings in the main home.
Fundraising in the community is an essential part of our work. Community fundraising events are fun, provide a service, and the proceeds help change the lives of young people at-risk of homelessness.
Running a fundraiser for Kids Under Cover is a great way to support our work. Your fundraising event can be big or small – you decide, and we will be there to support you every step of the way.
