A Kids Under Cover patron since 1996, Athol is a familiar face in the Australian entertainment scene via his foundation and International success of the legendary Seekers.
As individual Australians of the Year, Officers in The Order of Australia, Aria Hall of Fame inductees, Music Victoria Hall of Fame inductees, APRA Ted Albert award winners etc, with the keys to the City of Melbourne and the only group inducted into Variety’s Australia’s 100 Entertainers of the Century, they remain unique in the countries affections, and undoubtedly our most celebrated musical group.
Athol also has the Queens Silver Jubilee Medal, and the Prime Ministers Australia’s Centenary Medal.
Educated at Gardenvale Central he was school Captain, and at Melbourne High, twice under age Athletic Champion, a state High Jump champion, an officer in the Cadet Corps, and signed by AFL club St Kilda at 17.
Not as familiar is his success and activity in the worlds of television, politics, and business.
Elected to three successive terms in the Victorian Parliament – 71 / 79 as one of its youngest members, he opted to return to the business world and rejoined the Clemenger group as Executive Director and GM of Clemenger Harvie. 79 / 89.
During the 90s, whilst contemplating a return to the political world, he joined St George Banks marketing team as Business Development Consultant, and then AMPs blue ribbon financial planning group Hillross .
Alongside this role, he happily accommodated the many hundreds of International reunion concerts with the Seekers from 1993 to their international “sell out “50th in 2014 effectively curtailing any further political ambitions.
He currently tours his own mini musical “ The Seekers Story “ regionally around Australia.
