Kids Under Cover Mid Year Appeal

The generosity of our supporters over the festive season was combined with that of other like-minded people has helped us to built and install 19 more studios.

You may remember Helen*, a single mum of four children – Helen and her kids are survivors. Thanks to our kind support of our donors, Kids Under Cover was able to supply Helen and her family with a Kids Under Cover studio.

“I can’t thank you all enough. I can’t tell you what this has done for us, we can connect again as a family. We can move forward with our lives.”

This wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of people like you.

Juliette*, Helen’s eldest, is now in year 12, and the studio came at exactly the right time. In the main house, Helen has a six, seven and an eleven-year-old. “Studying for year 12 would have been close to impossible for Juliette without the studio”.

Now that Helen’s family are settled with the studio in their backyard, they can focus on creating a brighter future, together.

“Juliette is now more determined than ever to do well at school. She wants to go to university. She is tossing up between law, politics, international relations.

I’ve told her to just do the best you can, this year is an important year. She has the space to do the best she can and not be stressed about her future.”

For the last thirty years, Kids Under Cover’s youth homelessness prevention solution has been a unique and effective combination of a one or two-bedroom Studio placed in the backyard of a family or carer’s home, plus the offer of Scholarships for education and training.

A Kids Under Cover scholarship helps keep young people connected to education or training. Not just by helping financially with educational expenses, but also by preventing the social exclusion that can haunt young people who miss out on camps, excursions or other school activities due to lack of funds.

A regular donation will help keep young people in education, feeling connected and included. You will give young people a greater chance at a brighter future.

As more families feel the strain of rising education costs, soaring house prices and an increased cost of living, many young people may be forced to exit school or education early.

Young people just like Hannah*

After a traumatic childhood having experienced abuse, neglect and family violence, sometimes finding refuge sleeping in a car, at the age of seven Hannah was welcomed into her foster family with open arms.

Now, thanks to the support of Kids Under Cover, Hannah* is in her third year of university studying to be a Social Worker.

The cost of equipment, textbooks and, of course, travel to-and-from university can quickly stack up. Not only did Hannah’s scholarship provide significant financial ease for the family, it meant that Hannah can afford to focus on university rather than worry about how it will be paid for.

“The Studio and Scholarships have helped our entire family. Hannah’s foster brother Tim* completed a biomedical degree with the help of three Kids Under Cover Scholarships. Hannah’s foster sister Carla* just turned 18 and has secured a Kids Under Cover scholarship a few months ago.”
