After sweating it out on the Channel 9 television program 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire', Ian 'Molly' Meldrum had the chance to witness the fruits of his game show labor.
On November 10th 2004 Kids Under Cover officially opened 'Meldrum House'. Located in Melbourne's south, this architecturally designed six bedroom home will accommodate homeless and at risk young people along with two live in carers. This will bring a welcome relief to the young people in need in the outer southern suburbs.
"As one of the two charities nominated by Molly, we were thrilled to see him create Australian television history by winning $500,000 on Channel 9", said Kids Under Cover Chairman Ken Morgan.
"On November 10th Molly saw what his $250,000 donation has been able to achieve. This is life-changing stuff for our kids in need- Molly has a lot for which to be proud.
"It's not every day charities receive a windfall of this enormity. We really wanted to make it count. What better way to commemorate this fabulous achievement than in bricks and mortar" he said.
In his addres at the opening Meldrum stated, "I'm humbled and embarrassed by the attention this has generated. I didn't think at the time the difference money could make - I would have been more nervous!"
