Kids Under Cover receives funding from the Queensland Government
We are excited to announce that Kids Under Cover has received funding from the Bligh Government which will enable us to launch 10 new studios for at risk and homeless young people across Queensland.
The funding marks a new partnership with the Department of Communities and was launched last month by the Minister for Communities and Housing Karen Struthers MP, in Ormeau, south of Brisbane. In attendance were also Jo Swift, CEO of Kids Under Cover, and Scott Hutchinson, Chairman of Hutchinson Builders, who build our Queensland studios.
Minister Struthers commented, “A strong family unit is the foundation of a strong society. Sometimes families just need some space and a Kids Under Cover studio will allow young people to leave the house but not the home.”
Minister Struthers went on to say, “Kids Under Cover has been at the front line in providing innovative solutions to the roots of youth homelessness for over 20 years, and we are pleased to kick-off what we hope will be a long partnership.”
This funding was made possible through the Queensland Government’s Youth Housing and Reintegration Service (YHARS), which assists young people aged 12 to 20 years, who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, by providing support and access to a range of accommodation options.
Jo Swift, CEO of Kids Under Cover, said “This funding forms a vital part of our continued growth in Queensland, ensuring we can continue to support homeless and at-risk young people across the state.”
