Won't you take me to..the Kids Under Cover Umbrella Ball!

The '80s have been called 'a decade of excitement'. Music was
new wave and punk. Fashions were loud, wild and over-the-top,
with big hair, lots of makeup and stylish fashion accessories.

It was also when Kids Under Cover began. This set the scene for the 2010 Umbrella Ball, our 21st birthday, held at Crown Palladium on Saturday 17 July 2010.

Hosted by our good friend, John Blackman, the theme clearly struck a chord with many of our supporters with the event selling out. Over 1000 guests went all out to look the part and bopped the night away to classic 80s music and entertainment with performances by
Pseudo Echo, Scott Carne (Kids in the Kitchen), Dale Ryder (Boom Crash Opera), Brian Mannix (Uncanny Xmen) and Paul Norton (The Runners, and Wendy and the Rockets).

Speed painter, Brad Blaze, dazzled us on stage during the auction with his interpretations of Michael Jackson and Bono. Opera Prima also created quite a stir with their rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody which took everyone by surprise!

Throughout the evening, our Patron, Molly Meldrum, reflected on 21 of Kids Under Cover’s key milestones which bought back some wonderful memories for many people in the room.

For the first time, our Key Business Partner, Hocking Stuart, were also the Umbrella Ball Principal Partner. Hocking Stuart were instrumental to the event’s success with close to 200 staff and directors in attendance on the night. You may also have noticed full page ads in the Domain with photos of various Hocking Stuart staff, including CEO Nigel O’Neil, dressed in 80s inspired outfits to promote the Umbrella Ball.

Thanks to Hocking Stuart for their continued support of Kids Under Cover. Overall, close to $200,000 was raised on the night. Thanks to everyone who attended and supported this year’s event. We couldn’t have done it without you!
